“On my business card, I am a corporate president. In my mind, I am a game developer. But in my heart, I am a gamer”- Satoru Iwata.

I decided to pay my respects to the late Nintendo CEO with a drawing. I didn’t realize how much his life had impacted mine until I heard the news, read the article, and couldn’t help but cry. Some of my best memories are playing games that he developed with my brother and my cousins. My most favorite games that he had a hand in developing are, Balloon Fight, Super Mario Sunshine, Super Smash Bros., and Super Mario Galaxy.

I have fond memories of waking up on an ironically sunny Christmas morning to see Super Mario Sunshine sitting next to a silver GameCube. At that time I had become savvier with video games and had the expectation of actually completing the game as opposed to watching my brother play or goof around with the controls myself. I remember having almost what I could describe as anxiety playing through levels and beating bosses. The bane of my existence back then was the Gooper Blooper, Phantamanta, and Eely-mouth, they all scared for different reasons.

I guess it just tore me up inside thinking about all the lives he’s touched, the ingenuity and joy that he brought to people. I don’t know if he surrendered his heart before his passing. Cancer really sucks. I guess it hits a little closer to home because it took my Grandfather away. He was actually the one who bought me my first video game console, a transparent green Nintendo 64.

This has been long I know, I wanted focus on more of the good times. Sorry if it was sad it wasn’t my intention to make you upset. God bless you all, be safe, and have a wonderful week. <3

:salute: Too many memories...

I can remember the very first time I played Super Mario Bros. It was when my dad had first brought back one of those consoles that had a bunch of games mixed into them. It was hard but super fun. Then I remember on my 12th birthday I got Mario Sunshine. I played that for hours on end everyday when I got the chance. Don't even get me started on Luigi's Mansion.

Great art, by the way. c:
